- History of Int’l Patent System, Costs & Benefits of Patent System, Alternatives to Patent Systems, Int’l Patent Treaties, Paris Convention, European Patent Convention, PCT, WTO TRIPS, Chinese Patent System, HK Patent System & Reform, PCT – Int’l & National Phases, Int’l Patent Strategy, US Patent System, Comparison of EP & US Systems, Comparison of Int’l Patent Prosecution Practices, Case Study.

- Total hours: 40 contact hours + 60 self-study hours = 100 hours

- Assessment: Case Study (30%) + Post-Module Assignment (70%)

Module 6: Fundamentals of Patent Drafting 

- Introduction to Patents, General Structure of Patent Documents, Pre-drafting preparation, Drafting Patent Specification, Drafting Patent Claims, Full Patent Specification, Drafting Chinese Patent Documents, Drafting Practice.

- Total hours: 40 contact hours + 60 self-study hours = 100 hours

- Assessment: Drafting Practice (30%) + Post-Module Assignment (70%)

 

 

Module 7: Product Design and Development Management 

- Introduction to Product Design & Development, Introduction to IPR, Lean New Product Introduction (NPI), NPI Workshop, Exercise on 5S or 5C and Standard Work, Managing Design Projects, Patentability of a Product, Patent Search, Understanding Patent Search Results, Patent Search Practice, Understanding Brand Value, Concept Generation, Concept Selection, Commercialization of IPR, Case Study leading to a full presentation for NPI and IPR consideration.

- Total hours: 40 contact hours + 60 self-study hours = 100 hours

- Assessment: Case Study (30%) + Post-module Assignment (70%)
